Things to Know Before Moving

It is important to note that all autos imported are subject to any applicable taxes or duty fees. These are due at the time of import, and you must pay the company these duty fees and taxes before moving.

Import Charges and Shipping Fees for Cars to the Philippines

If you’re shipping a vehicle to the Philippines using a non-containerized (Roll-on/Roll-off) vessel, expect a port charge of ₱30.55 per revenue ton. The Philippine Port Authority charges ₱0.694 per ton on government-owned wharves, with a minimum fee of ₱10.00. Your shipping agent typically pays these charges.

It is crucial to understand these fees upfront and coordinate closely with your agent to avoid unexpected costs. Also, ensure that all required documents, including your vehicle title, registration, and proof of insurance, are prepared before your vehicle arrives.

Customs clearance in the Philippines depends heavily on correct paperwork and compliance with local import rules. Using a reputable international car shipping company can simplify this process by managing logistics, customs paperwork, and tax calculations for you.

Once you receive a detailed quote and use the Philippines Tax Calculator to estimate duties, you can confidently move forward with your shipment, knowing your vehicle is compliant and ready for transit.

Import Restrictions for Shipping a Car to the Philippines

To ship a privately owned vehicle to the Philippines, you must first secure an Authority to Import permit from the Bureau of Import Services. This permit can only be obtained from within the country and is required before your vehicle is shipped.

Only left-hand-drive (LHD) vehicles are allowed. Under Republic Act No. 8406, the importation of right-hand-drive (RHD) vehicles is strictly prohibited. Make sure your car complies with this regulation before arranging international transport.

When planning your shipment, consider the whole logistics chain. Transporting the vehicle by trailer to a departure port in the U.S. and then using roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) shipping is often the most practical and cost-effective approach. This method is especially popular with individuals relocating or sending cars overseas for resale, offering reliable access to the Philippines’ diverse and scenic roadways.

Vehicle Possession Restrictions

Before you are granted this permit, you must have lived outside the Philippines for at least a year. For cars newer than three years old, it must be in your possession for at least six months before arriving. For vehicles older than three years old, they must be in your possession for at least one year before import. Motorcars older than five years cannot be imported.

There is a limit of one auto per family.

  • Interesting fact: Right-hand traffic was introduced on March 10, 1945, the last day of the Battle of Manila. Before this date, all traffic was on the left side. Today, all traffic is on the right side of the road.

What Are My Overseas Solutions Through Us?

  • The flat rack method is beneficial for hauling large boats, pipes, or machinery since they can be loaded from the top or the sides. It is then secured and placed on top of the ship. This open-air service is recommended to those who prefer more security.
  • The container method is the most secure option and offers the most protection from inclement weather. Additionally, this is our most expensive option.
  • The lift-on/lift-off method, or LoLo, requires using a crane to pick up and place your large or heavy cargo on top of the boat. This open-air service is mainly suggested for oversized, created loads or large, inoperable vehicles.
  • The roll-on/roll-off method, otherwise known as the RoRo method, is the most affordable option and the most popular. Your equipment must be operable and able to use a ramp to get on and off the ship on its own with someone operating it.
